Handle with Care

What is HWC?

Handle with Care is an initiative in which students that come into contact with law enforcement or emergency services have their name forwarded to their school along with the phrase “Handle with Care”.  The school, now aware, will be more observant and ready to support if needed. If the student acts out, they will be able to respond from a space of supporting the youth get to the root cause of the problem with support like school counselors, social workers and mental health specialists rather than reacting to what the student did, punishing them from suspension or expulsions and pushing the youth into the school to prison pipeline.

How Can You Help?

EDJ is advocating for Handle with Care because we, youth, need our schools to support us, not abandon us, when we go through trauma. We know that schools want this too. Handle with Care will help us put a stop to the disconnect between schools and youth experiencing trauma. Handle with Care will add the knowledge needed for schools to be able to support us, the youth.

If you support us and Handle with Care, please show up for us, for youth! We are going to be speaking to the City Council on April 7th, 3:30pm at City Hall advocating Handle with Care to be adopted!
